Person whom perhaps I admire from today
Greetings to everyone who has come across this post. I never thought I'd have to post about myself, but here we go.
To be honest, I had never asked myself that question. It didn't seem important to me and I didn't want to answer it. Since I don't have a person from my field that I admire, I had to look for someone who would fit the profile.
The first brake I had was when choosing a person, not because there were many people to choose from, but because there were very few. The problem arises from the beginning of the sciences, since Chemistry and Pharmacy, did not have or possess that name. In ancient times, Pharmacy and Medicine were practically the same, and only later would Pharmacy separate from Medicine to be known as a separate science.
I chose Luis Ernesto Miramontes (1925-2004), that although he is not a Pharmaceutical Chemist in name, but a Chemical Engineer, he enters the definition thanks to his contributions to today's society.
His contribution to today's society are the first oral contraceptives, which helped people and governments to have birth control.
Miramontes was a researcher and co-founder of the Chemistry Institute of the National Preparatory School of UNAM, Mexico. He has more than 40 patents in different areas, such Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Petrochemistry and Chemistry of Atmospheric Pollutants.
He synthesized "norethisterone", it is the active base compound of the first synthetic oral contraceptive, better known as the contraceptive pill. Although it is common for the creation of the pill to be attributed to Djerassi and Jorge Rosenkranz (Scientists) , they agree that the invention or the first synthesis is from Miramontes.
My fifth blog.
Thanks for reading and until the next post.
